Friends

My friends and I were walking back from the downtown mall, the sweaty night more unbearable with every step. I even brought my winter clothes as suggested by the weather channel, but they were dead wrong! It feels like my skin will blaze away at any moment.

My friends weren’t exempt from the heat either, I could see sweat on every inch of their body, soaking through their clothes and making a stink that any sane human would run from. We weren’t sane, though, we marched on together with arms on each other’s shoulders.

“One, two! One, two! One, two!”

 “Three!”

 “The hell? Who said three?!”

Confused by the shout of a number way off, we all tripped onto the dirt ground for a good second, then, before anyone could get up, one of them took off their arms and immediately ran.

 “What the hell– Denilson!”

“Sorry, ya’ll. You guys smell like shit!”

The rest of us bumped into each other as we stood back up. Right after, we chased after the damn deserter. Luckily, due to the terrible weather conditions, he ran out of breath before he could get too far. When he realized we were right by his tail, he crossed the dark street, seeing a fence off in the distance to hurdle. I managed to get the closest to him, basically right behind him, and before I could reach him–

 …

I got run over by a damn Honda Odyssey.
